One night in Kelowna

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

Our camp fire is getting greater each time, attracting more new people every day. Which is saying something being that we are very limited in neighbours. But it’s nice.

So for some reason we woke up yesterday to a beer or few, I guess it was to ready up for the England v USA world cup match.

However the previous day whilst about town my wallet dissappeared from our car. I had it out of my pocket to lay on the beach, and later to skate.
Losing a wallet is a big inconvenience. Yes I shouldn’t have kept all of my cards in there, and I won’t. Well I think they are all cancelled now, but a bigger issue is my lack of drivibg licence, so I won’t be driving for a while.
I’ve called up my insurance and I can claim £250 to cover the loss which almost covers it all so I’ll just have to be penniless for now.

So for the football we headed down to a pretty posh campsite across the lake where all of the R.V.s are the size of a bus. It was a modern bar by the water front so quite pleasent.
There isn’t much I can say about the match except that what should have been a fine win was not. Better try next time I hope.

While in the camp we couldn’t say no to €1 showers, and our first proper wash in several days. Mmmmmmm

So after a sleepy drive up to Kelowna we stopped at hemp city to ask about where there was to party, and it seemed that everybody was off in the mountains at a music festival. Well $75 is a bit much to spend on a night out, for homeless, unemployed people so that wasn’t an option.

We drove on out of town a little to find some woods and an abandonned mill behind walmart inhabited by lots of pine martins and a beautiful meadow with hoodoos for a back drop. So camp site found we got some bread, humous and cider and enjoyed the sunset, with the occasional boy racer trying to drift through the car park.

That done we set off on foot Ali g the railway, honing our tight rope walking skills as we went.

In town we got chatting to some random English girls who guided us to a nightclub where we had a soberish, but entertaing dance for a while.

The fun came after our little sit by the waterfront an we gained enough energy to make the hour long walk back to the car.
I Insisted on taking an alternative route back “never go to the same place twice” and a couple of seconds after I stepped out of the road a huge pick up plowed through the car where I had just stepped from, and tore off down the road. An Audi A6 took the worst of it and after we provided the neighbours with our details for witness records we headed off to walk the rest of the way home.
Well to our fascination and mischief there were some machines re-doing the lines on the road. So with little hesitation Malcolm and I set to leaving our mark upon the town and walking down the lines, collecting paint on our feet we ran around the road leaving White foot trails.
Next luck we found a Dominos pizza with 10 minutes before closing, however they refused to open for us. But when there’s a will there’s a way, and I happened upon the idea of making a call and ordering a pizza to be collected so we waited around the corner. 10 mins later and our $7 pizza was done.
Just in time for the road markers to cone back for the other direction. Fun fun.

So we set up tent at 4am beside a stream which made for one of the nicest sounding camps within a city I have ever had.

What better than to wake up to a beautiful morning to set the day going.

Sex on a spoon with the queen

Monday, September 14th, 2009

So today has been a wonderland adventure with zoey.
We started off with Breakfast with the bugs and plants in the sun until zoey chipped the top off a molar chewing her muesli! So after some calming, emergency over and back to having fun. I love hanging with her, there’s always soo much laughing smiling and fun. So we had an park hopping walk across Mayfair to selfridges, she’s never ever been before! We had some photos with Santa in Christmas land, and then went to see the icecreamists. Down underground is a sexy ice cream lounge. We sat down in a black ice cream van all vinyl and fluff inside, with the queen in shades at the wheel. At the centre of the table was a red lit up button, and as curiosity would have me do, I pressed it. A couple of seconds later and a loud tune blared out, the tune to call children a running, the ice cream man is coming tune :) I didn’t go for the most expensive ice cream at £39.99 but the second at almost twenty quid. For that I got some natural stimulant milk ice cream, so toffee like that which adorns your toffee apple, and a shot of La Feé absynthe and even a badge. It was a delightful breakfast, and well worth the money, we even had an ice cream sex show off in our periphery.
Feeling dizzy we wandered the floors of selfridges laughing at the crazy things to buy, playing with the fun bits, and gawping at the funny people. I bought some White powder that when added to some water turns to snow, which turns back to powder and can again turn to snow. To finish off we bought some pies and had a lovely sunny goodbye so off back to dad’s I fly.
Yesterday I had a long walk around doing nothing but feel tired.
After ben finished work we went to a Moroccan restaurant which I’ve wanted to go to for years, so yummi cocktail and grilled halloumi.
Then to brick lane, but there was a music festival on and we weren’t there to pay to get into a bar that we wouldn’t be able to chat in, so the gun by spittlefields, a good old fasioned English pub was just right.
It was wonderful to have almost all of my best London friends all around one table, it made me really happy.
After some trouble and a slagging match with some waiters we found a nice restaurant where the waiter offered us 40% off our meal, bingo! We all heartily stuffed our faces until we couldn’t ven drink any longer.
So I’ve had a very memorable last time for a while in London.
The last few days have been so great, I couldn’t ask for better.
Time to start packing, off to LA tomorrow.

Reunionation

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

I’m sat in Leeds city train station due to get to Peterborough later this evening.
I’m super smiley happy, I’ve just spent the evening with henna, plus a couple of pints of nice cider and a great salad.
I haven’t seen Jenna in four years there abouts, and she was my best friend in school. She drifted up north while I drifed south, then abroad. So we had great times together in the past, and still it’s like times haven’t past, we are still cool just the same.
The salad was halloumi and mushroom, so lush as a duck, and Suffolk cider to boot :)
Leeds still has the cool vibe I felt last I was here, I like.
This morning dad, mike, ruth and I went for a nice walk, supposedly 3miles, which turned to six, it was pleasent, with pretty scenery.
Then I spent a whole load of time working out how to meet jenna. She is thesame old nightmare to reach by phone, and all I had to go on was knowing that she worked in HMV. So I had my lunch, and spent time working out the HMVs in Leeds, calling about. It ame down to one HMV that didn’t answer, the rest didn’t know her, so I sat and waited outside until she emerged. Of course it was going to work out.
So now I’m on my way to meet Sean her little brother, and see the family again.
Distant memories, time of now.

Why is there a great big Belgian helicopter in Regents park?

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

There’s a huge helicopter here in the north of Regents park, why?
I got a new passport the other day, after lots of waiting and hanging around. While waiting I saw G.I. Joe in Peterborough cinema, which wasn’t bad. I did expect the worst, but was quite entertained. I guess I was impressed due to my poor expectations.
Afterwards, I met jab for a pint at charters and we were joined by sean and tessa which was nice. It’s been years since I’ve seen them. Sean’s becoming hippy! And I saw adam. It’s wicked to have time to catch up with people.
Last night hannah, angel and I went out in the east end, cargo. It was cool. Even cooler that the club has a photo booth :) It wasn’t cool that I lost my phone. As it turned out it slipped out of my pocket in the taxi. And luck would have it that the taxi driver answered it and returned it :)
In Angel’s place they have a free gym and pool. So after breakfast we had a quick sauna and jacuzzi, wonderful.
Are these Belgians lost?
Today I’m just chilling. I think I’ll head back up to Cambridge in a bit.
I wish it was sunnier here in England.

Misty fens

Friday, August 7th, 2009

It’s two days since I was at the gym, I’m still achey, so I definately wish to go some more. Alan is huge, it’s almost wierd.
I saw the hangover, it’s funny, good enough to save to my computer.
I just changed trains, rushed, bought water and got funny tasting water, damn!!! Kinda refreshing.
Ely looks nice, misty, where is the beautiful weather?
Yesterday I was super productive, I filled in forms, wrote a résumé, sent off my broken hard disk and feel great for actually getting stuff done.
Dad and I went to see moon, a good film. I don’t think I’ve ever been to the cinema with dad to see a film that you have to concentrate, so new things. Very psychological, dark, great sound track, worth seeing. I’ve never been to a cinema that you can soy and drink alchohol in, so I had me a nice glass of red wine :)
Afterwards I met olivia, maybe for the first time in 4 or 5 years. It’s strange how meeting some friends and it’s like it’s been no time at all. We went to the cheeseyest club I think I’ve ever been to. After in a bar a guy tried picking me up, I didn’t realise and said something a bit rude, but still got a drink out of it!
Stayed at olivia’s with her freaky little dog. And now I’m en route to Peterborough to get a new passport, I think I’ll get there way too early, so will get me some lush breakfast somewhere. I need it after drinking last night.

Hangin

Saturday, July 4th, 2009

Euggg hung over. I just had to drive across central London feeling like crap.
I’m going to o and see portabello road.
I’m looking for an old chunky gold watch, preferably not in working order, I don’t care to know the time too much.
Yesterday I dropped by camden to see the guys in Cyberdog and popped by izzi’s and met her baby pug. It’s cute but sooo weird.
Then I headed to the squat in crouch end to meet with bertrand. We drank cider. There were lots of puppies available, I’d have loved to take one, but i’m far from capable of looking after one at the present time.
Matt came along and we and others went to Camden to go out. I that the first time that I actually went to Camden to go out like that?
Well the purple turtle was strange, like being in the five Years ago life, seeing mates and colleagues from before. Then we went to Dublin castle where we danced. I was so drunk that a girl I was getting with gave up. Oops!
So now I need breakfast to cure my self inflicted ails.
Oh and the iPod having Bluetooth, about bloody time, I love it.

Charmed

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

So after my stupidity of missing my train, i awoke at 5am, the first time of being awake that early since i would go to bed at that time ib winter. I caught a train to Barcelona airport, and caught my pla e on time. I had 45minutes in Paris, before catching a quick train down to Bordeaux(a convoluted route, but rapid and efficient), to enjoy the sun while I waited for alex after he knocked a guy into the ditch, then got lost. A tirin day, ended by hanging with his mates and siblings, but me too tired to speak French.
Said my good-Bye to alex over juice and off again.
Yesterday I drove up, pretty uneventful until I hit paris, which usually I avoid, but without map, driving alone, I let the gps do her job. It took me two hours to get around Paris, it Gould have been less than one. Je deteste la peripherique!
So to Amiens. I got here eventually. I tried contacting catherine earlier in the day, but got the number wrong. I met catherine in lacauno, in the campsite. But I got the number off my laptop, and she came to meet me. We walked through the pretty town, drank wine, when in France, then went to her friends party.
I’d met most of these guys already, and they were super drunk, entertaining, maybe embarressing for catherine.
I’m sleepy, in bed, chilled, happy.

Only myself to blame

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

So it’s been a pretty bad day all in.
I woke up after a noisey nights sleep on laia’s sofa, caught an hour of sleep in her bed after she left for work. When I finally went to leave for Barcelona, to catch my train for France, I found she had locked me in. There was no answer from her mobile, leaving me contemplating jumping down balconies to escape. In the end, marta managed to call the hair salon where laia works, an laia’s nephew came and released me.
I spent a short wander in Barcelona, and a quick lunch with her and her mates and dogs, one looking like a confused lamp.
So then came the stupidest moment, not checking the time, I guess the sun and heat had got to my head. So I took a walk up montjuic to see the city from above, I thought it would take maybe 30 minutes. I have no idea though, I enjoyed the walk, took a couple of photos, and just while I was wondering through the castle at the top, I checked the time.
It was 6 minutes before my train left for France, Shit!!!
So I listened to my music to keep chilled and made the 45 minute journey to the station. The station looked so close, I could have glided down one of those wires in seconds.
So in the station, as I’ve begun to notice in all Catalan stations, it’s total disorganisation, huge queues, and people running round stressed like, chickens with no heads.
I spent an hour and a half in there and I; got no ticket, as tomorrows train is fully booked, sweated a lot, got information of a slow train tomorrow thy can’t be booked and involves lots of stops and changes before France, but on the up side, I got my ticket refunded :) ! (something I had heard is the norm in Europe)
So I spent ages wondering the streets, to find a net cafe and organise myself.
I now have a flight to Paris at 07:30 tomorrow morning, thank fffk, I’m sick of trains for now. From which I an get to Bordeaux by TGV, and still meet alex in time to take me home after he drops his girlfriend off at the airport. This shouldn’t come to much more than the cost of training it all the way, even with the cheap hotel which I have here by the train station.
It’s a good thing I’m tired, because I need early sleep before my 5am wake up. And good riddence to today.
Yay for 4 cheese pizza, chilli oil and red wine :D the perfect recipe for sleepiness.
And I can’t wait to go to England!!!

Flying again, through the fields and hills

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

I decided to head back to Barcelona. I enjoy Madrid, and could quite happily stay there longer, but wanted to leave before getting settled. I want there to be plenty of reason to go back, and go back I shall, maybe this year, maybe not.
I tend to appear into peoples lives quite suddenly, and disappear, just as suddenly.
But I want to work my way back to my car, and ultimately, England.

So as I drift in an out of sleep along the rails at high speed, dreaming of the future, I think I’ll add a little about the past few hours.
Yesterday I spent almost ten hours wandering Madrid, wandering lost, wandering lushous parks, wandering art museums, laying in parks, passing beautiful people all along.
The strangest coincidence for a while, victor, who I have never seen except on the snow or behind a set of decks, just so happened to live in the same hood of Madrid as esti. So I had a beer at his. Watched how his snowboard video of my friends is coming along. Copied lots of his music. Then we met esti for eats before bed.
I’m not so excited when visiting a classical art museum but the museo del prado had some works that are among my favourite artists whom I studed at school; Bosch, patinir and Dali, so it was definatly worth it.
Today i visited the museum of modern art, reina Sofia. I was a little tired for a two hour art gallery wander but it was enjoyable, though my sleepiness from just waking now leaves me wondering what I actually saw?!

So twenty minutes from Barcelona, I hve no idea where I will stay, I I’ve no phone numbers for the people I know, maybe a hostel. I think I’ll stay in Spain omirow night too.

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

Or 311kph, I’m on a train from Barcelona to Madrid right now. I think this is the fastest that I’ve ever travelled at on land.
My shoulders are peely from too much sun a week ago in lacauno.
Yesterday I met laia on the beach at premia se mar. We had some beers, dinner, wine, And she got quite drunk. She’s made a new song, it’s nice but needs much work. I’m impressed that she’s working things out to have time to make music, and live.
This morning I had an hour on the beach, so I feel a little rosy, but not burned, good!
Today will be the first time that I’ve ever been to Madrid, flying in on the way to Peru doesn’t count.
So I guess I’m staying with esti, maybe see victor, maybe a friend of laia, I have no idea about this place.
