Why is there a great big Belgian helicopter in Regents park?
There’s a huge helicopter here in the north of Regents park, why?
I got a new passport the other day, after lots of waiting and hanging around. While waiting I saw G.I. Joe in Peterborough cinema, which wasn’t bad. I did expect the worst, but was quite entertained. I guess I was impressed due to my poor expectations.
Afterwards, I met jab for a pint at charters and we were joined by sean and tessa which was nice. It’s been years since I’ve seen them. Sean’s becoming hippy! And I saw adam. It’s wicked to have time to catch up with people.
Last night hannah, angel and I went out in the east end, cargo. It was cool. Even cooler that the club has a photo booth
It wasn’t cool that I lost my phone. As it turned out it slipped out of my pocket in the taxi. And luck would have it that the taxi driver answered it and returned it ![]()
In Angel’s place they have a free gym and pool. So after breakfast we had a quick sauna and jacuzzi, wonderful.
Are these Belgians lost?
Today I’m just chilling. I think I’ll head back up to Cambridge in a bit.
I wish it was sunnier here in England.
Disappearing act
I have scratches all over my arms from play fighting with leslie’s young pitbull. The little beast is lightening fast, I smacked her on the bum and her teeth were around my hand before I could even move. The pair are lovely and cute. Oh and I’ve never seen a dog jump it’s whole body up to human head level. Scary!
So last night I stayed in the hostel, nobody there came out, too hungover. So I met agota and our group grew to maybe fifteen. The shop had no gold beers so we sat and drank beer with a classical concert beside us in deak square. We headed off to corvinteto and I think I wandered off home due to being a bit drunk. So another day feeling a bit rough.
I happened upon a great little underground restaurant earlier, Nepalese. I had some paneer naan and a curry, wonderful.
Since then i’ve been walking, and now I’m up on Buda hill, with a view over all of Pest and the Danube.
A chilled night is in order I think.
I’ve just noticed something missing from this skyline, an abundance of cranes. Any other capital city is usually overrun by construction, but it doesn’t look like that here.
Brain pain
I’m in hossegar, just north of biaritz, we can see biaritz and Spain from the beach.
I’m in a world of verbier guys, staying with nico and charlie, another couple of verbs are here too. I bumped into vince my head chef from winter last night. It’s so bizarre, verbier life is everywhere.
It’s so nice to be back by the sea. Yesterday nico and I were body surfing in waves up to 2m. It’s crazy floating up the on the crest, like flying, like superman.
Last night we did the verbier thing and drank loads, so feeling rough now. I still don’t enjoy the meat Market clubs. I’m awake, waiting for these other guys to wake, or at least admit that they are also awake.
Then we can go to the beach. I’ve never even touched a surf board, but joao is a surf instructor, so no time like now to try.
And here I am sleeping on a double bed sized sofa bed, the luxury!
Au sable
It’s been a nice chilled day today with ian, courtney and no kids. We dropped them off at the activity centre, went to the Market, and had some breakfast. Chinese before midday is bizarre!
We read our books, I bought two today, and now I’m Reading the snow leapard.
We went for a bike ride, I love, though after swapping with ian near the end I all but fell off, damn riding an eight year old’s bike.
So some sunbathing an a glass of red, and we cruise to Bergerac to take louise and cousin to go clubbing, well not us. We had pizza and watched ball room style dancing.
Home now, finished some red wine over discussions of English cinema et al.
It’s amazing how tiring doing nothing is.
Bon nuit.
Capability is not acceptability
Today I’m couch surfing in Kerry.
Last night, agota, sebastien and I went out. Being that we started after midnight, we weren’t so drunk to dance to the cheese in the club until it was time to leave, so we had our own wake the house mates party, until seven am.
So today has been a little rough.
I said my goodbyes and drove off. It’s slow going on Irish roads, but I got to the gap of dunloe. It’s beauterific! I worry that I got a bit excited and damaged the underside of the car when we flew through the mountains, however much fun was had.
So now it’s rainy, foggy but not too cold, in cahersiveen. I’m staying with ciaran, a couch surfer, not like other couch surfers that I’ve met. He’s mid life, his wife and kids have just left him, he’s Irish, well travelled and has a huge beautiful house by the sea, and grows his own veg. We had great home made dinner, red wine, cool chats, then went to his sister’s pub. Even better, the next pub had an impromptu gathering of music, guitars, harmonica, fiddle…singing. Awesome.
Finally we did the responsible thing and cycled home in the rain, gees, I don’t know whether it was the booze but the km uphill almost killed me. ![]()
Well off to sleep to await the next adventures.
Polish
Last night I stayed at the sant jordi hostel. It’s supposedly a Big party hostel, but it was Sunday and everybody was suffering a little. I managed to guess a guys accent as pensylvanian, super impressive!
So I went out with 3 canadians, after we watched Italy have it’s ass kicked in the conferate league. I’d never even heard of this tournament!
So we went to the harbour for ricey dishes, introducing them to paella and sangria. Then I acted as their tour guide wandering the streets with beer.
We ended up in placa catalunya, winding up the old men selling beers and drugs.
I got chatting with a couple of glaswigians down for sonar, out of drugs, and we headed to city hall, a club, a sausage fest, and then I went back to the hostel.
Today I’ve just wondered about, trying to check the balance of my Swiss bank account, but with no luck. In gracia I bought a shirt and met a lovely polish girl who’s doing pretty much the same as I, working, travelling.
Now I guess I’ll head to premia as all of the shops are closed.
Driving past Dresden
Prague is a crazy ass party. Just how I remember it from previous visits.
The hostel was super cheap, full of Aussies. The pool and sauna certainly made all ace.
Last night we went on a pub crawl, organised by a couple from the states. 120 people, drinking games, shots, beer, wicked. Almost all were americans, bit of a culture shock for me, kinda good introduction to what I’ll get after summer. But damn cool, and Christian said it best, “Americans like to get drunk, and fuck”.
So getting drunk in the van, on the way to Berlin, but never take a taxi in Prague!!!
Water babies
We’re still in krakow, but not for too much longer.
We picked up a new hostel, drank a bottle of vodka, and ventured out into town to meet up with some guys doing an organized bar crawl. We saw a local bar, a rock bar, and ended up in a big club. The night was great, but after ian bought a bottle of vodka in the club, all is a bit hazy for all. Vodka is crazy cheap here. Nights out are crazy cheap. Krakow is an awesome place to party!
Yesterday we took our hangovers to the aquapark. We spent 4 hours riding slides and playing tag. No more hangover, and tired out, wet through, we found this campsite nearby.
The night consisted of wine, vodka and cards.
And I did my first load of washing, for free! Four weeks on the road and I was just about out of clean enough underwear.
Things are going great, and the vam’s about to get even tighter with the arrival of ian’s brother Friday in Prague.
Sovereign
Alex made the whole drive here to Sofia. We offered to take over but he kept saying no. Eventually 9 hours of driving later he snapped, but we found the art hostel in Sofia.
It was 10pm and we hit the hostel bar, a few shots and beers and off out. Not too eventful.
Yesterday we mustered up the energy to leave and find food. Mcdonalds for the lovers, sushi, pork, risotto, and fried cheese for alex and I. We found second hand old books. I bought a 1955 Bulgarian copy of David Copperfield in English, and a 1964 copy of Live and Let Die. So no need to take my time Reading from now on.
I dragged us to to tallest building for drinks, but we found ourselves in another book convention.
So a beer in the park and it rains.
It turned out that we we next to the hostel, we all bought some crazy t-shirts and got some beers.
Watched a graduation and started a failure of a bar crawl. The locals don’t seem to manage bar crawls, the don’t do ordering at a bar, so we got bored, back to the hostel.
Met a crazy swede, and crazy Canadian guy who pissed each other in some other country and hooked up to continue travelling, and off we all went out, minus courtney.
Crazy taxi rides, and we ended up far far away. But due to the crazies and their sandles, we only managed to get into the last of the clubs in clubberb, which was crap. Reminder, steer clear of turbofolk.
Back to town where our wallets got raped in a strip bar, better left unmentioned, we the ditch alaex and get food and beers.
So now I’m awake, I’m going to get breakfast here, before we head to Romania.
the cas bah
crazy night, no money, ace.
after finishing work early at 1am carla n i went to the pub, met her mates was cool, so we went to cas bah after it closed at 2am.
met so many many rich guys, that weren’t complete twat. one famous guy with table with 3L bottles of vodkja.
some banker from geneva.
so lots n lots of free drinks. not to mention emily on the bar giving us one each time we said hey.
but at about 5 am i got chatting with a kosovan who was in town on family money. we had such a heated discussion about the western civilisation, me arguing if he hated it, why join in, of all the places verbier. well he had a bottle of liquer in his hand, so shot shot shot every few minutes.
on the way home i bumped into some mates having the most full on fight ever, for fun, going harder than u’d see in a film, so entertainment.
the kosovan guy who i met was hanging out os a car with about 15 people in, so no lift for me, but i got pain au chocolat!
though lost my phone, but replacement sim on the way, but lost of my new contacts form the winter.
so crazy crazy night, and not looking forward to work later.
oh and on the work front i’ve been offered a job for the rest of the season! ace!
