right so it’s been almost 2 weeks since i updated this blog.
a lot has happened;
we arrived into banff and checked into the samesun hostel.
we realised that the town is over-run with aussies.
we met rob, marije and some of their mates.
we started partying.
we went up to sunshine for the opening day, rememberance day which is a national holiday here, and it was packed. after speaking to a ticket girl it wa expected tehre would be 1000, or a max of 2000 people on the slopes, but due to the big dump of snow, there were 5000 plus, with people having to park 4km from the car park by the lifts. the ski resort is around 15km from the town, it was back to back on the way there.
needless to say it has been one of the best openenings to a winter season all decade here. and we’ve had lots of fun up on the snow.
we’ve met lots of cool people already,a nd guess we’ll stay here for the winter. alan is set on having a party season, i’m easy having done this already, so we’ll stay.
we’re getting to know the town. it’s like verbier priced, so expensive and low wages, but we can manage, but dearly need work. alan may have snow shovelling work. but i haven’t had any luck yet.
we have been to one appartment to look around. it looks nice, not central but no big deal, unfurnished, but it wouldn’t be a problem getting lots of furniture for free. but we are on a list of applicants, so down to the building management company to decide.
we’ve taken to going to bingo each thursday as it’s great fun with mates to have a drink, pay a little and maybe win. i’m convinced that alan is our jinx. he even called bingo when he didnt even have the number! so maybe next week no alan on our table! he can sit with the OAPs.
so alan and i started our level 1 ski instructor course yesterday. we are doing it with competition skiers who are finding it difficult. i don’t think that i’m the worst but my snowboarding background is making it difficult for me. so this week i’ll have to get down and do no snowboarding, just prctice my skiing. we are all struggling, being good skiers, but having to do the basic things ar so difficult when it has been soooo long. so next weekend is the decider, and fingers crossed, all will be good.
so life is going on, and we are settling into our ew lives nicely. we could do without all these aussies. literally if you walk down the high street the majority of accets are oz, and they have taken all the jobs. plus the culture isn’t very canadian. but hey it’s all a great experience.
