Sic transit

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

I’ve spent a rough night in my car. At first I slept in a car park overlooking Dover. I woke at 1am to a police van parked behind me. The didn’t see me asleep on the folded down rear seat, half in the boot, and were worried something horrible had happened. But the were off after a short background check.
I woke later to two cars parked near me, 10 or so young guys with torches checking over my car. When one came up close I climbed to the front, switched on the engine, and drove off, blinding them.
I found a much more pleasant place to sleep up the coast, and enjoyed a beautiful sunrise over the sea.
Martin and I now qualify to dive :)
We did some dives in an old quarry, flooded with sunken boats, cars, airplane ad newts. It’s pretty fun, and I can’t wait to do it in warmer waters.
I’ve spent a couple of lovely evenings with ammy, ron and louise. (Martin’s boat neighbours until he got floating). They are all awesome people and have surprised me, and given me some ideas and thinkings for my journeys. They also had a connection to Nam that I didn’t know of, and was great to converse with them.
So now I’m on the boat to France, swaying here and there, it’s fun to watch people wobbling down the boat. I’m going to take a long, but hopefully scenic route down to swissland.
Bon journée.
Oh and it’s colllllddd, welcome to autumn!

Wrinkles

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

Ben’s party was nice. Excellent to chat with people.
I had naughty thoughts about a friend. Never before. Well was a strange weekend in all.
I came back to the boat to go fruit picking with Amythest, but I read some dive homework and passed out in the sun on the deck. I’m nice as brown again.
The past two days, martin and I have been on out dive course at Andark near southampton. It’s going great, didn’t matter too much that martin and I hadn’t done all of the homework in time, we’ve caught up now.
The only sketchy thing wad martin guiding me about without my mask, in a murky pool, getting lost. All fine.
We splashed out, mind the pun, and bought snorkel, mask, fins and boots, not too costly, but now we look like raving trouts!
So off on Thursday to Frome in Somerset for our lake dive.
I feel good this evening. I’ve walked and bought cider, local, for drinking in Switzerland. I finished my homework. I have time to sleep early. :)
Good night.

This is England. ‘s summer

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

I’m down on west wittering beach. Lovely golden sands. Old English country homes along the dunes. Kites flying. People swimming. Yachts sailing. Reeds twitching. Children laughing. Second world war planes droning above. Waves crashing beyond. This is the most english beach i’ve been on. Perfect for a bit of sun bathing!
Where’s the ice cream? Cider?
Sat here is gorgeous on this beautiful sunny day, with the isle of Wight a haze out there. England at it’s finest. I guess the cycle ride here put me in the perfect demeanor. This area Is awesome.
Yesterday was quite a sucess. After an early wake, tidy up, the boat was hauled off down to the mud. We kept busy doing bits. And a few hours later, the tide was up, and the boat was afloat, can I day huray? It’s taken a bit longer than initially planned, but we motored her down to a marina.
It feels like purpose is partially fulfilled, and is great to feel her floating. Not long now and she’ll be ready to sail.
Last night after all of the excitment, I went off with oli. I worked with oli in the Cyberdog shop in Camden years back. It was great to have such a serious, deep conversation. And quite a surprise, as I never knew oli was of such a way of thinking.
The two pint of local cider, and take-away Chinese made for a good sleep.
Well I better get moving, wash and get yo London. It’s ben’s birthday party.
It’s such a shame to leave paradise.
…another time.

Today was a glorious sunny day, for the most part.
It was great to have the day with my other family. After a hearty breakfast we went for a walk along the coast, with much Fronk play, channel swimming and a pic nic on the beach.
Deb managed to put us half to sleep with a fire at home.
So I ran off before my eyelids fell. And now I’m back near Chichester.
I’m very happy to have managed to get down to kernow and the draganfly cottage.
So an early rise tomorrow, and time to see if this big boat can float!

Just what the doctor ordered

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

I’m laying in a cottage in Cornwall with big green letters painted on my front saying ‘lucky dip’ :)
I had a lovely morning chatting with trixie. A wonderful pretty fairy girl, and lots of sunshine. So I left Glastonbury feeling much better than when I arrived. All the people there helped me feel good, and some told me that I did a good deal to make them feel better, so all in I left there feeling good ;)
Well I got to cornwall and the gorgeous weather was grey and English. But I was instantly ordered to get naked, painted up, stuffed pants with lottery tickets and the family and I went off to stand in a field, laugh at others, but mainly get laughed at.
We did not win the dress up contest, by far. Deb scared away all of the photographers. And we had a long walk through town, scaring children who we only wanted to give sweets and make them smile. We were carnival :D
Ali, deb and I had Chinese, mmm and met Izzi, mark and a rather hairless drink.
I really hope we get to go to the sea and swim tomorrow, even if it does rain.

New world

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

It’s time to get on.
It’s been a crazy rollercoaster of a week.
A bomb strike. We found out that my brother had passed away. Nothing had prepared us for such shocking news. I have spent the week rushing around the country. Seeing family. Keeping busy. Thinking lots. Not sleeping lots. Speaking lots. Trying to come to grip with the enormity of the whole situation. Also I’ve been trying to make sure that somebody was there for dad and alan as much as possible.
It’s crazy to think that it’s possible to lose a brother at such a young age. To start with almost too much to comprehend.
I think I was blessed to have spent some time with him so soon before he was gone. We had a great time together, connecting, conversing, laughing and experiencing. I feel lucky to have been able to understand him to a level that others in the family did not quite manage to. I think these have allowed me to accept things slightly better. I have done my crying, but now am not sad. I’m happy that his spirit is now free to go and do other things, including being with mum. So I wish him well on his journeys. I know he will always be with us in many different aspects.
One great thing has been meeting some of the people whom he was close with over the past few years. Nobody has spoken trough politeness. Everybody has had a common thing to say and that is how much he has affected their lives and how much of an ongoing effect he will continue to have even though he has gone. It is almost impossible to understand how many people he has touched. He has taught people so many things, and turned so many peoples lives around. It would be impossible I think for any person to live up to how great a being he was.
So he will live long with us, and no doubt watch over us to make sure that we continue to well in the future.
We must all learn from our experiences, grow stronger and bigger, and make more of life than we could imagine.
Good bye little big bro.
So off to the new world we venture.

Rumbles

Friday, August 14th, 2009

I ate some cheesecake earlier, now my belly is bubbling something scary. It serves me right for eating soo much creamyness for the first time in a long time.
So I’m at grandpa’s up north. I drove up this afternoon in order to see them both before I leave with alan for the states.
I’ve come from Chichester, where martin and I have been working hard on the boat. I’m awed at how boat like it is now looking. It is finally almost ready to sail. And it us due to be in the water next week!

Why is there a great big Belgian helicopter in Regents park?

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

There’s a huge helicopter here in the north of Regents park, why?
I got a new passport the other day, after lots of waiting and hanging around. While waiting I saw G.I. Joe in Peterborough cinema, which wasn’t bad. I did expect the worst, but was quite entertained. I guess I was impressed due to my poor expectations.
Afterwards, I met jab for a pint at charters and we were joined by sean and tessa which was nice. It’s been years since I’ve seen them. Sean’s becoming hippy! And I saw adam. It’s wicked to have time to catch up with people.
Last night hannah, angel and I went out in the east end, cargo. It was cool. Even cooler that the club has a photo booth :) It wasn’t cool that I lost my phone. As it turned out it slipped out of my pocket in the taxi. And luck would have it that the taxi driver answered it and returned it :)
In Angel’s place they have a free gym and pool. So after breakfast we had a quick sauna and jacuzzi, wonderful.
Are these Belgians lost?
Today I’m just chilling. I think I’ll head back up to Cambridge in a bit.
I wish it was sunnier here in England.

HSBC

Friday, August 7th, 2009

I’ve been sat in the HSBC bank in Peterborough for 25 minutes. They had me do my banking over the phone. I’ve been on hold for over 20 minutes. And now on hold again.
Supposedly they cancelled my account because I was in credit. I was in credit as I felt it was easier to pay extra when I paid my bill, rather than go through the hassle of paying after spending, or risking missing a payment, as they make it too hard to set up a direct debit.
This is the worst bank I have ever had the experience to deal with.
The whole time I have been with them they have made it nigh on impossible to utilise the account, blocking me from Internet banking, telephone banking and using the card.
I am glad to not be a part of that bank, they have been the most unhelpful group that I have ever done business with.
Well score, getting around £500 :)

Misty fens

Friday, August 7th, 2009

It’s two days since I was at the gym, I’m still achey, so I definately wish to go some more. Alan is huge, it’s almost wierd.
I saw the hangover, it’s funny, good enough to save to my computer.
I just changed trains, rushed, bought water and got funny tasting water, damn!!! Kinda refreshing.
Ely looks nice, misty, where is the beautiful weather?
Yesterday I was super productive, I filled in forms, wrote a résumé, sent off my broken hard disk and feel great for actually getting stuff done.
Dad and I went to see moon, a good film. I don’t think I’ve ever been to the cinema with dad to see a film that you have to concentrate, so new things. Very psychological, dark, great sound track, worth seeing. I’ve never been to a cinema that you can soy and drink alchohol in, so I had me a nice glass of red wine :)
Afterwards I met olivia, maybe for the first time in 4 or 5 years. It’s strange how meeting some friends and it’s like it’s been no time at all. We went to the cheeseyest club I think I’ve ever been to. After in a bar a guy tried picking me up, I didn’t realise and said something a bit rude, but still got a drink out of it!
Stayed at olivia’s with her freaky little dog. And now I’m en route to Peterborough to get a new passport, I think I’ll get there way too early, so will get me some lush breakfast somewhere. I need it after drinking last night.
